Kindiki said the day is a reminder of the struggles and courage of countless men and women who gave their lives to defend Kenya’s sovereignty and dignity.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Monday called on Kenyans to take time during Mashujaa Day to reflect on the country’s long journey to freedom and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who came before.

Speaking at the celebrations, Kindiki said the day is a reminder of the struggles and courage of countless men and women who gave their lives to defend Kenya’s sovereignty and dignity.

He said Mashujaa Day should inspire every generation to preserve the unity and ideals that the nation’s founders fought for. “We remember the many who gave up their comfort and even their lives for our freedom and democracy,” Kindiki said, adding that Kenya’s story is one of resilience and shared purpose.

The Deputy President joined the country in mourning the late former Prime Minister, whom he described as one of the most dedicated leaders in Kenya’s history.

He noted that the late leader’s contribution to democracy and justice will continue to inspire future generations. “We also remember all those who have gone before us for selflessly protecting our sovereignty and expanding our political rights,” he said.

Kindiki said the next phase of Kenya’s journey is to strengthen its economic base and ensure that the gains of freedom translate into improved livelihoods.

He said the country is moving in the right direction under President William Ruto’s leadership, which continues to build on the foundation laid by the nation’s forefathers.

“As you lead us, Your Excellency, the future of Kenya looks bright because of the work done by those before us and the effort you continue to make to keep the country united,” Kindiki said.

He concluded by noting that Mashujaa Day belongs to every Kenyan who contributes, in any way, to advancing the country’s vision and aspirations.
